Monster bullet, Zippo, Silvers & Gold!

Ok, starting with the silvers. Researched a dot from the 1872 map in the big Park Woods north of the city near where I work. First lunch hunt scouting the area scored just a handful of golf balls, no sign of the homestead. Re-evaluated the map overlays and decided to head 100 yards further down the trail, bingo, cellar holes.

There were not a lot of signals, found a few typical items (grommets, nails) then a really good signal, too shallow, but perfect silver dime near the intersection of 2 old farm paths. Pushed the leaves away to pinpoint and there she was.

Merc Dime, awesome, so decided to sweep around this area, nothing, finally back at the Merc spot and there was another dime signal exactly the same spot, but deep this time.

Another Merc 6” under the first one. Did another walk around and came back to the spot and this time the magic ran out, no more dimes...

Did a quick stop at my favorite old homesite in the Woods last night after work, barreled some more weeds and got a really strange signal. Sounded like a crushed can, but disappeared when I lifted the coil, so I dug it.

Immediately posted this to find out if I had dangerous live ammo, received a bunch of quick IDs, 1944 Frankfurt Armory 50 cal dummy bullet, pretty cool.

Met up with fellow Tnet’ers Louis and John Saturday to hit a decent size park near the city. This park was established in the 1800’s, near an old high school, has a pool area, sport field and wooded areas. Now it is mostly a frisbee golf course so old trees and mowed grass. Seemed like a perfect spot.

There were loads of clad coins, mostly from the 70’s. We all tried to gear our targets to the deeper high tones looking for the cool old coins. I started getting frustrated after a couple dollars in clad and loads of old bottle caps and only a single wheat penny to show. So I decided to walk the trashy fenced perimeter of the sport field.

A decent high tone and my first Zippo.

Looks like it could be operational with a little work.
Met up with the guys at the end of the hunt and John was pulling silvers out of a small hillside. We all took a shot at it, but John was the only one pulling the old stuff. John ended up with 3 Mercs, 1 token, 1 V Nickel and 9 wheats to my single wheat. Total butt whooping! I swung my coil over a couple of his targets and my machine was reading trash target, then he would dig it and it was a wheat or silver. He’s got one of those new coin vacuum detectors everyone is talking about. So, I just ordered one, it’s arriving Friday!!!! Oh, I did eyeball one really nice keeper at this park, partially sticking out of the mud. (Sorry no insitu pic as I thought it was most likely an upside down screw lid cap)

1k men’s gold ring! Obviously the stamp is worn so I tested it and it is 10k.

John is doing great with his detecting, tracking for well over 100 silvers and also doing a great job creating cool YouTube videos through his Wash-Pa-Diggers account. I think he has enough footage to release a video of the park hunt, most likely uploading today or tomorrow.

Good luck out there!!

Finally relegating the old ACE 250 to backup status and getting an Equinox eh? Your ring looks a lot like the one I dug earlier this year. Does it say ArtCarved inside the band?

Hey Steve! Yes... my trusty Garrett has never let me down, fired up every time and found lots of goodies over the last 3 years. I’ve gone on dozens of group hunts and always hung in there with the ATP’s, Deus, CTX3030, Excal and Fisher 75. People always asked me when was I going to upgrade and I would think to myself “why”, until Saturday’s debacle. (My ring just has the 10k stamp nothing else.)

Excellent hunting. With the new machine you'll be able to go back over those great old areas that really paid. Let us know how things are going once you get into the groove with it and HH ALL

always fun with a new machine or new coil you can rehit all your sites again great finds thanks for the great post

Very rewarding hunt. Congrats

Thx! I can’t wait to try it out, but realize that to get to the same level of proficiency that I am at now with the Garrett is going to take time and lots of patience.

Zippo will repair it for you if you send it to them.

Those Merc's look great! And that's a very nice gold ring. Nice finds! :icon_thumleft:

i hear ya. I've got thousands of hours on the at pro and am thinking of buying the EQ800 even though I hate my explorer.
You getting the 600 or 800?

Sweet Mercs, Thad! That cellar hole location looks beautiful. I think once you get comfy with the Equinox you won't look back. While editing the gold ring pics, I'm 90% sure I see a 14 before the K! Will have to see what you think.

I got the 600, the 800 is compelling as well

Very nice hunt with many interesting keepers! :occasion14:

Thx John! Your right it looks like a faint 4 as in 14k on your edited video, but the 14k acid actually was smoking when I dropped it on the stone and ate it quickly , 10k acid did not touch it. Another cool video, man it must take you a lot of time to pull those together, but nice job! You know I was hesitant on making the jump to the Nox as I have a symbiotic relationship with my Garrett, but time is right for a new challenge. See yinz Saturday!

think yours is just like one I got - mine is 14k - the colour of yours looks more like 14k also - if it was 10k - think it would be lighter yellow
mine is circa late 1800s early early 1900s

Thx Casper! Looks like your ring is an identical design to the one I found.

Nice to get Silver and Gold! Congrats on the new machine. I reckon you'll be on top of it in no time. Kudos.

Congrats on a really good hunt! Good luck with the new machine, I am wrestling with getting a Nox. I just don't know....I have an old broken Garrett Treasure Ace 300 that Garrett will give me a 35% discount on a trade in on a AT MAX, so essentially I can get the MAX for the price of a AT PRO.....what to do, what to do???

Nice!!! Congrats!!!!

Awesome finds! I just saw the video on Wash-Pa's YouTube channel. Nice collaboration!
