In a post titled "Additional stuff", I showed two frames of points I inherited from my late Uncle. This is the last frame of points that he had. He gave them to me before his death, when he was over 100 years old and blind. His memory, without being able to see the points, was that the all came from Amador County, California, when was working on a survey crew in the high Sierra Nevada Mountains, back in the late 20's or early 30's. The nickle is for size comparison.

Your photo is the first one of those I've ever seen. It's a neat looking point. What area are they usually associated with?

WA & OR. Thats nothing, you should see the ones Matt has in the museum, they have even longer barbs. There is also one called a "Molalla" which is Molly in Indian. I have been trying to get one of those for ages. I will one day...
These types are my utmost favourite types..
Nice to learn new types, isn't it..

So they are from the neighborhood of the Columbia River. I'd never seen one of those points before. I have a friend that lives in Mollalla, so I'll have to go visit him and see if there is any place he knows of where we could hunt arrowheads. Have you seen the Rouge River points with the long barbs? Each flake, on the one's I'm talking about, reaches to the center of the point, meeting the exact same type of long narrow flake coming from the other side and meeting in the center. They are awesome, there were some real craftsmen living in that area of the Rogue. I wonder if the points with the long barbs point were used mostly for fish. I live on the Umpqua River, and I've been told that at one time you couldn't ride a horse across the river because there were so many fish. I suppose most streams in Oregon were at times bank to bank with salmon.

First of all, its illegal to hunt arrows in both states, you risk losing all your collection, plus a fine.
I have seen the Rogue River points, they are fantastic. I like most the points from your region, I'm a big lover of bird, fishing & war points.
I believe they were used for fishing, I hear the rivers are full of those type of points, just try finding some whole though..
I'll see if Matt will post the museums for you to see. They are incredible.

Here is my other one, I only have the two.

Molly. :)
