Metal Detecting
Returned home to N.J. from upstate New York to metal detect the nearby creekside woods again that has yielded loads of old buried relics. Found another old mason jar lid with intact white porcelain insert, 2 more old buckles, what I believe to be an old medicine bottle?, an old heavy 7 1/2 inch 'fiddle back' fork with the initials GCS followed by 2 hallmarks (if anyone can ID the maker and date would certainly appreciate it), and a couple of other items. Cool digs 2m.

Is the fork sterling? I have some sterling service with similar hallmarks... although the color of the metal seems very corroded to be silver.

Huh, looks like the silverware we're still using at my house, same color and all !

Its not silver, so technically they are not hallmarks.

Nice day of digging
