These three buttons, found last night, were about 6 feet apart. The toasted piece would've been a "crossed rifles" infantry collar disc. I've found 4 of them, this one retains the back. Among these I found grommets and small utility buckles. Brass bullet casings and clips everywhere.
In a cedar woods hilltop, where the ground makes you pay for each hole you dig. The surface is an awful mat of hard stringy roots. Gotta rip and tear your way through it, maddening stuff. I count 9 buttons from the place. The Army must've camped and drilled here before the 1920's. Apparently, they crawled around and lost all their buttons.
