The dirt [mud] fishing really paid off today.
The old homestead site gave up 2 Coppas and an Indian Head.
40 degrees with rain and snow moving in so I had to get out before things froze up again.
Got 3 hours in before the rains hit. The large cent and half penny were only 6 feet apart and I found then on two cosecutive digs. How's that for the luck of the Irish?
The half penny says Field Marshall Wellington on one side and Half Penny Token on the other.
I can not find a date.
Thanks for looking and best luck to all, Merf

Another great set of finds Merf WTG, super nice the 1847 is a real beauty. Glad you were able to get some more time in before the freeze.

Super finds Merf. I love the action shots of the coins coming out of the ground....and the landscape shots are stellar, as usual. Very interesting half penny token. Keep up the good work Bud! ;D

Merf, congratulations on the two coppas. I found this link: http://cgi.ebay.com/Half-Penny-toke...463690QQihZ015QQcategoryZ149940QQcmdZViewItem

Another link: http://www.abccoinsandtokens.com/D.NotLocal.092.html Even though your coin doesn't have a date, I believe that it was minted from 1811-1820, according to the previous link.

Thanks for the Info and the links Kyle-----Greatly appreciated

Thanks Silverfreak-----I sure hate to see the cold weather moving in. This has been a great midwinter break.

Nice finds! Wow, those coins are sweet!

Question: Why do use a rock tumbler on old coppers like that? Isn't that kinda dangerous? Why not go with the hot peroxide method? Just curious.

Congrats again!

Cheers,
B

Thanks BManley and Silver dreams

Some coins peroxide just does not work on.
The first pics of the half cent were taken after a long bath in hot bubbling peroxide.
I have had better luck with wheaties and some Indian heads in peroxide.
I tried peroxide on this Indian head too before the tumbler.
It barely affected it. In my opinion, the tumbler with aquarium gravel, water, and 1 oz of vinegar is the best way to clean up the old copper.
