The heat in Missouri this summer has been one of the worst. And very little rain in my area. That equates to very little hunting in the month of June, July and August. I went back to my old reliable hill and in 1.5 hours found the bullets in the picture. Again they appear either wormed or shot. Three of the bullets and in particular the 3rd from the left appear to have been chewed on by some small rodent like a field mouse or shrew. I have never found a bullet so chewed. Anyone else encounter that? The hole where I found these and a few others was criss crossed with small tunnels.

The ring was found a few feet away and it is just to show the variety of items I find on this hill. It is a cheap ring missing the setting marked Avon on the inside.

I will be hunting at better sites starting this weekend and hope my posts are little more interesting. And every fall, I head to northeastern Mississippi and hunt the sites. So like most, I say, "Bring on the fall!"

Yes, this summer has been too hot for MDing. For most of us, anyway! Some TNetters have been out there all summer getting heat stroke, swarmed by bees and ants, and finding great stuff! Today was my first day MDing since June, great to be back out.
You did good, and you have a great place to hunt. Go get 'em!

I believe you are correct. It fits nicely into the first bullet on the left.

I recall the very first civil war relic I found I got to detect on piece of property less than 1/2 mile from Shiloh battlefield park. Within five minutes on the property, I hit a target in a hunted out spot and it turned out to be a bullet not more than 3 inches deep. How it was missed before I have no idea. I was slightly disappointed though because it seemed all "mushed up." I packed it out and went onto Mississippi to a veteran detector. I took it out sort of dismissively and he told me it was the first bullet of a double load and went on to explain to me just what that meant. Even today years and several finds later, that "mushed up" bullet is still my most prized find. And trips back to the spot has yielded one small piece of melted lead and nothing more.

Thanks for all the encouragement from everyone posting.

I do believe that you have got the "bug' Mike and are making good finds. Nice bullets. If the next to last bullet wasn't double loaded, that was a heck of a ramrod-LOL. Good luck on your next hunts. HH, Quindy.

I am one of those T-netters who swarmed over the fields with 104-degree heat in August ..... :laughing7:
