Hit the 1812 spot again hoping to turn up something interesting and I got my wish!

Found another GR button and a beautiful 82nd button! I was stoked when I found the 82nd but 20 feet away I made an even better find! I have to believe this is from the 82nd regiment as well, although I know other regiments used the Prince of Wales plumes.

This thing has me a little stumped. It has a brass front with a lead or pewter filling. It is identical to the Civil War eagle breast plates, and has the remains of 2 iron lugs on the back. I am assuming it is a breat plate or something similar, or possibly a bridle rosette. Could be either or I suppose.

Has anyone seen one of these before!?

I am pretty stoked. I love finds like this.

Thanks for looking!

Hey Iron Patch didn't you find something similar to that plate before??

That plate is awesome. Hope you get a id on it soon. I'd like to know myself. looks early like the rest of your finds.

Yes, a typical british crossbelt plate is oval or rectangular. I was speaking of the similarity between this and an American eagle "breast plate" although in truth I am unsure what function this had on a uniform.

I have to agree. Seems like like a bridle rosette to me. That being said I am still quite confident in the association with the 82nd reg't based on the location found and the fact the 82nd was without a doubt posted at this location for a few years. It will be a nice addition to me display case.

As Crusader said, certainly British.

Shame there is no regimental number on it as well.
