Civilman and I went out to hit Antietam at sunrise this morning.
We found a few of the farmers fields Were disced, and DEEP!!!!
I was like a kid in a candy store! I couldn't decide which way to
go............This field.........That field...............The old soldiers
road............The orchard...........TOO MANY CHOICES!!!!!!!!!
I wanted them all!
We decided on the closest disced field, and that was a good
choice. Within three minutes we were holding Civil War lead in
our hands.
By the time we were done, I had 11 pieces of history in my
hands.
My first 2 69 minnies
My first to buck shots
4 dropped 58 musket balls
one fired pistol bullet
one fired musket ball
AND one dropped 58 Minnie ball

The only 58 I got today was a Washington Arsenal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on the Arsenal. My kind of finds. I haven't hit a field this year. Maybe next week.

Great finds.

You're a "dawg" on the Washington Arsenal, thank's for the shove right before you found it :o That was a good day Ty for a hunted out place.Check out your .69's....might be just a little different.Gotta hit the Orchard next time...Congrat's on the find's and the plowed field to boot.Tis the Season.Nice job Ty....too bad you couldn't stick around.....Can you say Kepi Buckle ::)

Nice Digs...Looks like you had some fun today...Congrats on your finds...HH

Very nice finds Ty You 2 got a lot of lead!!!!!way to go you two.

Thanks guys.
Check out civilman's post to see The rest of the story.

Looks like they're all drops...

No luck finding the third buckshot from the buck and ball? I assume a ball and two buckshot came out of one hole?

Nice finds either way. Those "Star cavity" minies are great finds. Only ones I have ever found were in Virginia.

Cheers,

Buckleboy

Ty,
You and Civil both found some great finds. Those bullets are awesome! I can imagine how you felt seeing the freshly plowed areas.
I've never had that chance yet, as my old spots aren't farmed anymore. :'(
Way to go.

So does the star indicate Washington arsenal? I have one large caliber minnie ball that has that star inside. I found several dropped minnies on an overlook of Dayton OH. Must have been an observation point during the war. Dayton was probably concerned with John Hunt Morgan paying them a visit.

BOY I LOVE HEARING ABOUT ALL THE CIVAL WAR STUFF YOU GUYS KEEP BRINGING TO THE FORUM. I WOULD LOVE TO FIND A LITTLE PIECE OF THAT WAR IN MY AREA. NEVER FOUND A 3 RINGER EITHER. IT LOOKS GREAT AND EXCITING. THANKS..............PACO

Yes. A star or the US mark is the mark of the Wahington Arsenal.

After today BB.....the amount of .69's and buck are pretty even, the area is no bigger than 50 by 75 yd's which make's sense of them being all dropped.Very effective piece in the Arsenal at close range. All started with George Washington in the Amer. Rev. and petered out at the end of the CW,kinda.....
