Most of the laws are due to archeologist's wanting everything for themselves thinking they are the only ones who can hunt treasures.

True, but the tide is turning. Especially in the UK.
Terry Herbert's discovery of his Saxon Hoard a few years ago, seriously opened the eyes of archeologists. Many metal detectorists are now frequently used.
I hope and believe it will happen here in the US as well.

Peace ✌

Melissa , on the surface , you may think that any laws against md's are "because of archies". Why ? Because when any of us md'rs objects to a "no md'ing", & say "... but WHY?", the pencil pusher is sure to refer you and I to cultural heritage concerns . So you and I mumble under our breath "durned those archies ". Right ?

But the BIGGER. question is : What put it on that archie's desk , for his princely say -so. (a pressing issue in need of his attention ), to begin with ?

Archeologist's believe nobody should profit from historical artifacts. They may have a point to some degree but then if nobody can profit from anything there is no value on anything other than sentimental value.

My MOST valuable possessions are sentimental!
Peace ✌
