Mound of Rocks

I need some help. I found what is definitely a maker, but I don't know what it means.

It's a large pile of rocks with some black dirt mixed in. The native soil is red clay. On top are two pieces of white quartz--hard to find and placed there on purpose.

After digging the entire pile, I found a horseshoe, nothing else.

My guess is civil war vintage, but I could be wrong.

Any ideas are very welcome.

take compasas bearing of the shoe travel then proceed both directions

I don't know the direction as it came up in my shovel. The two white quartz rocks on to are East/West. Does that mean anything?

Also, how far away would you think a cache might be?
