We had to go detecting because of the fine weather. Just freezing, very little snow and the sun lurking through the clouds.
Three hours in the thawing snow, boots started to get bigger and heavier every step, coil had to be cleaned every row.
The hunt started slow with not much under the coil and it stayed that way.
A good laugh was the garden gnome, holdig his eyes shut. Guess because he saw us stump through the mud.
Perfect example for a late 20th C. votive figurine often found in frontyards. :laughing7:

My buddy found a complete roman iron key, came up with the deep plough just laying on top.

My hunt was a blank and the gear looked like finest churchgoing outfit...

When heading home a took a corner at the field too sharp and cut a tire on a rusted fence post standing out the ground a couple inches.

The $300 jackpot of the day. I called my lady in, she took me to the shop, i grabbed spare tires and tools. We were back at the truck in the dark. Took 10 mins to change the tires and i was back on the road home with two "35 and two stockers... :tongue3:

That's what I call an adventure .Ive seen now they make tires that if they go flat you can still drive for a while on em to get where your going or a repair shop. Nice finds gotta give that gnome a home

For now he's standing on the laptop, still holding his head because of the crazy detectorist he has met today. I will report him to the archies and look what they say....:laughing9:

Funny!

Never had a complete Roman iron key!

Must be the deep ploughing they did. We had some stunning condition coins this year and the key is the same quality. I nearly tipped over when he picked this up...

btw, do you think the iron thingy could been a fire steel?

You did very well today :occasion14:, except for the tire mishap!

Congrats Westfront, very nice finds!

Perhaps next time you'll a Votive figure of St Continental or Goodyear! Laughing with not at!

Best wishes and good luck!

Gonna take a lot of .50 cal. scrap to pay for that tire. At least you found a new friend. Better luck next time Lu.
