I was finally able to get out with one of the Bastrds of Bramble - Charlie aka. C-Dawg. He was kind enough to bring me to a spot him and Bart found, and they've had great results. Bart was unable to attend (watching a friend get shackled to a ball and chain), so it was Charlie and I.

We spent about 3 hours on the site in 100% humidity and 90 degree weather. Here's my scores.

A Ferdinand VII 1/2 reale. No, don't adjust your headsets or crane your necks, it is a counterfeit. During cleaning I had a layer of silver flake off, so this was at least double-silvered. The base metal is white, perhaps a white tombac. Funny enough the counterfeit had me fooled in the field, even after 205 years. That's cool, and I love it.

In my collection I do have an Regal example of a found Ferdinand VII half reale, so this is the side-by-side.

I also found another Spanish 1/2 reale - a Carolous IIII, no date (180X)

Also a crotal bell, broken with a sunburst bottom. Likely mid-late 18th century.

The bits: a nice shoe buckle frag, pistol shot, repurposed copper coin, and an 1863 fatty Indian cent.

Matron head copper (roached)

And unidentifiable farthing. Matches the weight and size. Oh well.

Happy Father's Day everyone,

Good digs

Steve

Very nice Scrappy, I'm liking the counterfeit.
GEEZ I can dig bells it seems, but I'd be damned if I will ever see one Spanish Silver. Well done for the wet tea bag day.

You'll get some Spanish this summer! Nothing surprises me when it come to what's found in the Great white North. Thanks for looking bud

You're still coming up with the good stuff!

Now you have to shoot for the bigger prize... a struck counterfeit Spanish.

Now you're talking!!

I hope you get out for a hunt soon, it's always a pleasure to see your killer finds. Cheers man!

I'm glad to read that some BOBs got out as a team and killed it again. I'm loving that counterfeit Spanish silver and hoping ya'll sprayed down for ticks. They are bad this year.

It was so humid the ticks took the day off. Apparently Charlie was talking to one while taking his "usual" "break" and the tick said not to worry.

Thanks buddy

Any day with Spanish is awesome but to add a ctft is really a great day. I have a Seth North bell in my collection. Marked bells are a great recovery

I was reading up on counterfeit medium in colonial America, and apparently everyone was doing it. I read that the natives were using rock and other crap to make counterfeit wampum. Unfortunately the marked bell is not mine, but that's awesome you found a Seth North. Next time I'm up I'd like to see that beauty!

Cool variety of finds! Love the Spanish silver!!! WTG Congrats and HH

Congratualtions on the killer relic and coin hunt! :occasion14:

Great father's day ground presents. A counterfeit Spanish silver is very, very cool!

Don't know how I missed this post Steve, but man that's an amazing assortment of goods, you killed it!

Thanks ZK. In hindsight, I should have cleaned it differently. I could have possibly retained more of the edge. Live and learn I guess. Cheers

As long as there has been money, there has been people making fakes. Way back the penalties were quite severe, including loosing a hand, all the way to being hanged, drawn and quartered. Not to mention vigilante justice on-the-spot:)

The period counterfeit is certainly my favorite of the bunch, nice haul Steve

Thanks Jon. Are you back in "town"? You should do a traveling visit and stop by NJ. Cheers bud

A lot of nice finds there Steve. Looks like your recoveries are trending a bit older which is always good. Keep 'em comin' man!

Thanks Bill, that's a trend I don't mind. Many times older sites in my area go the opposite direction from yours. Most 1600's sites are built over by high rises and strip malls.

Cheers

Jealous, I'm sitting over here in Cali just itching to get back to Vermont, and the East Coast in general.

I saw you mentioned that in another post. You'll get back soon I hope, but in the meantime go find an old gold camp. Much easier staid than done I know.

What a great hunt buddy. You need to freaking alert me that you posted something so I can come make fun of it. You text me asking what kind of womanly drink you should make but you don't show me your finds....very odd

Oh stop! If I had texted you that brand new Spanish silver you would have scoffed. Lol. I thought I texted you with Bradley. Shiz... maybe not.

So I enjoyed a cocktail called a "Pims Cup" tonight. Very delightful and fruity. A Manchester Chap of mine came over and made a batch. It's "British Sangria" but spiked with gin. Lol. Cheers bud
