Music on videos

I was looking at some videos the other day and one of them had no sound. The video was intact but the music was missing. At the bottom of the video it said that "music deleted-copyright infringement" (or something along those lines). There is a ton of metal detecting videos out there with recognizable tunes. What is allowed and what is not---or just do not worry about it since it is not for profit.
