Musket Ball?

Found at 5" in woods near where I found an 1857 coin last year. Is it that old? Is it for sure a musket ball?

If not a musket ball it could be grape shot.

Lead could be a musketball or case shot from a cannonball.
Steel would probably be case shot from a cannonball.

What area of the country?

Looks a little small for a musket ball, maybe a rifle ball.

As close as I can scale it ,I get a diameter of approximately .575"

It's made out of lead. I found it in Metro Detroit area in Michigan. I also found these at the same area if these help out at all. Stupid question, what exactly is grape shot?

Since you said they were lead. Because of the seams, I'd say it is a field cast that someone never finished after it came out of the mold. Approx. date unknown without knowing the history of the area.

It could be very old, but I guess no way to prove it. The caliber and location is right for some of the old French fusils and trade guns, traded to the Indians by the French.

The other two bullets you have shown are of fairly modern design, one being a lead round nose and the other a wadcutter. Probably .38 Caliber I'll bet. Monty
