Detector(s) used
Minelab GO-FIND 60 and Excalibur II
Primary Interest:
Beach & Shallow Water Hunting
I'm getting ready to update my land detector. Having an excalibur 1000 for the water, and knowing how well it performs, it seems to be a no brainer to go with Minelab.

March of 99 I bought a white's classic id for $354. I perfer simple detectors without all the graphics, bells, & whistles.

The musketeer priced around $578 is within budget and appears to be a solid machine.

Any comments/advise would be appreciated.

Why not a used sovereign xs, would be in your price range, give you multiple frequencies, and tone id. There would be no learner curve from the Ex, the Musketeer is a downgrade from what you have been using. Also, dont dismiss the xterra 50, super lightweight and easy to operate.

The Musky is still a fine detector without all the bells and whistles, but it is a step down. I suggest a Sov GT, as it is even better than the X50 or X30. plus it is hipmountable to save even more weight.

What he said. I keep my Musky as a back-up and loaner detector. It is a capable and easy to use unit, and if you have a good ear and a good set of headphones it can talk you through some trash without the need for digging junk. It does have an affinity for aluminum in any form. You WILL dig pulltabs and bottle caps thinking they are better targets.

Great relic machine but for coin-shooting in trashy parks there are better choices.
