hey all,

For all around coin shooting and jewelry hunting, what is it that would bennefit me to use the DFX300 over the MXT? Is the price worth the purchase?

Thanks for the help

There's probably not a big depth difference, but the dual frequency of the DFX makes a big difference at the beach, and in areas with lots of iron trash. In iron-rich areas you can run the DFX in Correlate Mode, which does a terrific job of canceling iron signals. That mode is also what gives the DFX the edge at the beach, in canceling the salt. So, you just have to decide on the areas you will detect, and whether the little bit of extra cost is worth it. Keep in mind, also, that using the DFx in the low frequency mode only also gives you an edge when hunting silver.....lower freq. means more depth. Multi Freq. machines always have the edge on single freq. units....you just have to decide if you need/want that edge.

With the DFX you also have the ability to customize programs using the much more adjustable discrimination feature. This is a great advantage in detecting areas with lots of trash.

More its not always better if I had to choose a detector now, and I had the v3i top of line whites, I would go with the mxt pro. For me the best detector you can get from whites.!

I dont think you could go wrong with either. I own the dfx and I have found lots of great things with it. I like the ability to customize the settings for my area, and the dual frequency is a plus. I hunt a lot in 3 khz looking for silver. The dfx is a very versatile machine. I have never owned the mxt, but from what I've read and seen it is a great machine as well. Less settings to fool around with the mxt from what I gather.

It depends on your preference really. If you like to tweak settings then the dfx would be the detector for you.

I used to have the DFX and it was a great machine and I found a lot of stuff with it but I was really wanting a turn and go machine for relic hunting and also I did not like going thru all the programs to set the machine the way I like it. I sold it and got the MXT PRO with the 10x12 SEF coil and love it much better than the DFX. I know the DFX is a great machine but for me the MXT PRO is better for the type of hunting that I do. I took the Pro to a park that I covered heavily with DFX and found a lot more silver and wheats. May have been the SEF coil which I highly recommend. The one thing that I really enjoyed about the DFX was the tone ID's. The DFX is a great coin machine. Which ever you go with you will have a great machine. Both are top of the line and it is more of a preference than anything else.
