Hello everyone,

Had a good days hunt today. I was backroad driving and came across an outhouse in the middle of a field. I had to investigate that one right away. I knocked on a few local doors and buttoned down permission to begin the hunt. I noticed a lot of glass shards scattered all over. I ended up digging my oldest coin ever this afternoon. An 1817 Large cent. I was excited to see that. A large cent has always been on my wish list and now I can cross that one off. I still cant believe it. I followed it up with a silver thimble, (which I dropped back in the field by accident ) an 1859 Canadian Large Cent and what I believe is an old iron shackle. It has two holes on each end and one in the middle that I suspect may have been where the chain went. I'M not sure though. Can anyone confirm?

I agree

Excellent finds, xmarks! :hello2: Your 1817 LC is an oldie and will be hard to beat. Love the Canadian LC, too. Congrats on your firsts! WTG :icon_thumleft:

Congrats on your first. Looks like a 1847 but that may just be the photo. :hello2:

yeah pretty sure its an 1847....hate to be a pooper, but still an awesome find! If you google images of an 1847 vs. an 1817 you can see the difference. 2 Largies in one hunt is killer.....a big congrats on a great hunt! :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

Hi everyone, thanks for the id on the shackle looking thing. I had others say the same as you so I have to agree it is an auto part. Looking at the photo of the LC, I would also have to agree its a 47 and not a 17. Been waiting a long time for my Large Cent, so I'm happy without any disappointments. :headbang: I went back to the field today to try my luck again and it was freshly plowed. Its gonna be a long wait until next spring. :-\

1847 or 1817- still a great find :icon_thumright:

no doubt about it!....so you cant detect the field now because they plowed it? :'(

Yeah its off limits because of the seeds. I told the guy I would not go out in it after he planted. He said he was planning on plowing real soon so, I would have to hit it pretty quick. I did not know soon was the next day though. :dontknow:

WTG on the LC's! Excellent!

Bummer you have to wait to get back on that field. Congrats on your first Largies :hello2: Two in one day would be awesome!!

Two LC's! WTG!!! :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumright: :headbang: :hello2:
