My ACE 250's 1st find!

It was a cold and Icy night when I set out to my old back yard at my parents place. The temperature dipped below freezing, but my leather gloves provided a warm grip on the bright yellow Garrett. Surely the stomping grounds of my youth would prove to contain all sorts of shiny things to excite this brand new coil. I turned on my trusty machine and off we went! After no more than four steps the gizmo let up wildly and chirped away. I had found it! My very first metal and it was pinpointing to be about 3 inches wide! My imagination ran wild with thoughts of buried cashes of old, and secret trinkets locked away in earths cold hard shell. I grabbed a shovel and dug out a four inch deep chunk of frozen icy tundra and promptly tossed it into a steaming bucket of hot water. Minutes later I had my prize! Now presenting my very first find!

It looks like some early 1990's iron to me ;D

Now thats just the prettiest one I've ever seen Tokomo. Glad you cleaned that thing up, straighten her out a bit, you just never know when you'll need one.

Re: My ACE 250's 1st find!

Hey welcome to the forum and nice first find. I know with a little practice that you will find lots of goodies and will look back on this nail with a little chuckle.

Might try hunting in coins for awhile until you get the hang of the detector. Also turn your sensitivity down around 4 notches. Usually iron will only give you a signal in one direction. When you swing the coil back there isn't any sound, it is usually iron.

Good Luck and remember keep the coil to the soil,Ringfinder

P.S. I also use a ACE 250

Re: My ACE 250's 1st find!

Thank you for the advice and welcome! I cant wait for the ground to thaw so I can do some major exploring! The ACE 250 seems to be a nice little machine. It is very loud though! I cant imagine doing this without headphones!

Does anyone know if it is a true stereo output? Like if I find something on the left of the coil do I hear it on my left? Or just a mono signal?

I really can't tell you about the headset. I always use a good detector set that has an ajustable nob on each ear. That way you can turn down the sound if you like or turn it up if you need to.

You might want to look at my last post on here, Promoting our Great Hobby, a lot of the items in the pictures were found with a ACE 250

Nice nail! I would not clean it, might take away its value, LOL. Congrats on the detector and HH, Mike

Thanks ringfinder for that tip! Still learning the ACE and I wondered why it did that sometimes.

Tokomo - I noticed that sometimes I get the mono too and have not been able to figure out why. Maybe someone will know....

Welcome to the best Treasure forum on the net Tokomo! :) Great post too! ;D It's very kool to see someone get as fired up as you did, with your first find, no matter what it turned out to be! 8) There will be many firsts for you this year my friend, you have much to look forward to! ;) Trust me, it gets easier and more fun as you gain experience in the field, or yard even, if that's what you have to work with right now. :)

I can hardly wait to see your post when you locate your first Wheatie and then, your first piece of beautiful Silver... 8) Hope you have a fantastic year swingin' that thing buddyman!

Re: My ACE 250's 1st find!

Nope, not the ACE's first find, your first find! Darn ACE is good but never found a thing without an operator. Nice going. My first find was a ring....a rusted washer! Monty

Re: My ACE 250's 1st find!

You can tell a story better than Gene Shepard can. Can't wait to hear about your first coin. Anyway, if you get headphones, be sure they are at least 30 ohms, don't get cheap 8 ohm, they sound like you are listening thru a pillow compared to 30 ohm. I have 30 ohm and 150 ohm phones, the 150 sounds not that much better than the 30.

Re: My ACE 250's 1st find!
