My best spare change find...

Interesting post. At what point does a coin become collectable? Of course the question is arbitrary, but i bet if the Jefferson nickel was replaced with some other new design it would be worth holding onto. I say good find, some day I'll be wishing i held onto all the pre '64 nickels i collected as a kid .

When that day comes you will be long gone. Only pre 64 nickels worth keeping are the key dates and the silver ones.
 

Halves and dollars before '64 were 90% silver also. Halves from '65-'70 are 40% silver. There were also modern mint sets and proof sets with silver coins in them. Occasionally, the sets get broken and end up in circulation, so, keep an eye out for those also.

I was referring to what you would generally find in spare change, but I see where you are getting at.
 

Only has value for collecting purposes if it's in very good condition.
