My daughter's 1st point!

My daughter found her first point! She is really excited and wants to know if anyone can help identify it. Found in N.E. Iowa near IA/MN border. I am so proud of her....she was beginning to give up hope. The best match I could find in the Overstreet guide in the Northern Central section was a Burroughs point. Any help from the experienced is appreciated! I know it's hard to tell from a pic.

Looks like a small knife to me. That's a wonderful artifact and your daughter should be very proud! And way to go pa, for taking her out there and sharing some quality time like that!

I know nothing about such things, other that that they are fun to find. Great of you to help her appreciate history and a hobby that that will keep her brain working!

Thanks for the comments! Yes, it's moments like that that will live on forever in both of our memories. I even missed the Vikings game to go out looking with her and I've not missed a game since 1992 when I was still in the marines. I too, thought it was probably a small knife but in her mind it is an arrowhead! I emphasized the importance of artifacts and the thrill of her being the very first person to pick that up in hundreds or thousands of years and that some smart native made that piece of work to help feed his family.

Waller knives are typically from way down south (Florida, etc). They are characterized by being made on a flake, they are unifacial. Ashley's item appears to be either a small knife, tool or even preform.

I bet she's delighted, we all know how it feels to find our first point.
Tell Ashley Congrats on her first find.

Molly.
