Just aquired this excallibur 1000 without the sword. It seems like when hunting in all metal mode (pinpoint) It makes a Baud sound like it's ready to hunt after passing over shovel. Hunting in dry and wet salt and non salt sand. But when passes over metal it goes away. I thought it should make a sound after passing over metal not dissapearing? I am finding some stuff but not sure if this is right or not. Settings are 0 to 1 discrimination, sensativity 2 oclock. Threshold just audible. Thanks in advance.

Are you saying the sound goes away in pinpoint when it passes over a iron shovel, or goes away in descrimination when it passes over iron shovel?

In descrimination Minelab Nulls (Sound goes silent, no threshold) when it goes over iron. That is one of the major advantages of the minelabs, they null on iron. They will also read gold sitting next to iron, you will get the null then a signal for the iron, most other detectors will only sound off on the iron and not read the gold....

If it goes away in pinpoint it has a problem.

Hope this helps..........

Yes sometimes it nulls in pinpoint when I pass it over my shovel and objects in the ground. It seems to have a pinch in the wire a little by the coil I wonder if I should cut it open and investigate? I have liquid electrical tape. I cleaned the coil cover too. I think I will check for sand in the shaft.

I would not mess with opening the wire to see if something is wrong. I would send it in for repairs to Minelab as you many need a new motherboard or coil. Even if it is out of warranty it is worth the peace of mind to know it is well repaired. Otherwise you'd be wasting your time swinging away with a detector that might not be responding. That time you'll never get back.

I never use the Pinpoint mode for searching as this defeats the use of a Minelab as this is All Metal. I never use it to pinpoint with either. Sens. about eleven o'clock if possible where you hunt. Disc. about 2. Threshold where you can bearly hear it, and Volume all the way up. If you have heavy surf noise, cover the drain holes in the ear cups with tape.

Good Luck,
Sandman

Tim and I exchanged phone numbers and I met him tonight to see what his problem was, very nice gentleman. The knob for his pinpoint was missing the top cap marker to tell what mode he was in, he was reading it backwards, what he thought was pinpoint was discrimination and vise versa. What he was seeing was the nulling in discrimination mode.

Simple mistake, Tim is on the right course now and looking for a straight shaft and good scoop to start raking in the gold...............

Thanks, tomorrow is another day
