O.K., I took Ridley with me today, and was forced to dig up his leftovers. ;D I did find a nice CW era bullet, because I beat him to the spot I think? Actually, it was our 1st time out, and we both had a great time.
My finds were:
*A 1948 vaccination tag.

*CW era bullet. Note the small ring around the top. Anyone have any info on this style bullet?

*Two wheat pennies - 1953 & 1944.
My other coin finds were clad: 87' Quarter , 64' Nickel , 67' & 77' Dimes.
(No silver for ME today. Someone else found it!)

*A neat old "Cleveland Work Wear" button.

*Shotgun shell heads.

*An old clamp for clothing. All I can make out is "PAT 2382" .

*Two bullet casings: "W-W S&W 32 Long" and a "R-P Rem Mag 7mm".

*An old valve stem cap engraved "Cleveland-Dill".

*A two-piece nut & insert that says "Sprayer System" on it.

Well, those are my humble finds for today.
Thanks all,
MM

Great post as always... I'm no bullet expert, but I'm pretty sure someone will come along and tell you thats an 'ole blackpowder dropped bullet. Nice buckle, another umrbella thingy, etc...

What is that huge white round deal?

Sorry, I forgot about the white object. I spotted it in the creek. I thought it was an egg at first, but it turned out to be part of a rock (quartz?) that time has rounded. Pretty cool.

P.S. If it were metal, Ridley would have found it. ;D

Don't forget the squirrel skull... or whatever that was. :D

I forgot to mention the tour included a bottle dump, a swamp, a waterfall, 20 or so mysterious gigantic metal signals deep in the woods, a barn, 3 rustic sheds, a torn down silo, rocks covered with metal, some kind of strange hole, a dairy building with a coat rack, two dog kennels and these huge mini stonehenge rocks all over the place... a hillside strewn with Civil War era stuff, two different driveways, a large field in front of the front yard and the biggest oak tree I've ever seen... next to the 1800's style mill type structure with the pipes that lead down to the place we didn't have time to get to.

Then there was the building through the trees with some kind of logs on it.

I'm going to bed! ;)

MM .....You take and deliver real nice pics. Thanks for sharing

Well it sounds like you two had a great time and you got some keepers too!
Those are some great pictures MM...

Nana :)

That ring you see is from having to ram the bullet hard down into the barrel. Once the barrel started getting hot and dirty, a lot of force was needed to seat that bullet down firmly in the barrel.

Nice finds MM and good you got out with a buddy! Those sites sound like they have a lot of potential! HH, Mike

I found a huge chunk of quartz in a trash pile in a field I was hunting before Christmas. That sucker must have weighed 140 pounds, and I like to never got it in the back of my truck. It resides beside the gate to my back yard now. I don't know where all of the quartz came from here in eastern NC, but I find a lot of it, although usually not that large.

And by the way, get back out there and don't let that rascal Ridley skunk ya!

Gribnitz,
Thanks so much for that info. Very neat. I think the site I am searching and finding these CW era items may have been a camp or brief stopover point. I've found two drop bullets, 4 or 5 buttons, a spoon head, an 1800's baggage trunk latch, asst'd 1800's clips & padlock pieces, other misc. lead balls, etc.
I spoke with a retired Wake County archivist that happens to live in my neighborhood about some of my finds. He told me that there were Union soldiers that move north through the area that I am searching on their way to Franklinton, NC. (about 5 miles north), then onto the D.C. area. I'm thinking these items I'm finding are from them possibly? Anyways, that was some interesting info to learn. The relics I'm finding are mainly in a cleared area of a small hill, overlooking a running stream, so it would have made a great stopping point.
Sorry, for the long-winded response, but this CW stuff gets me jazzed. ;D
Thanks,
-MM-

I really like the old dog tags. I found one in my own yard from around the 60's. If I wasn't so old, I'd start collecting them. As it is now I'd probably only have 2 to pass down. I'd like to get a new puppy too but I don't know who I'd leave the dog to. ;D

Mike,
Next time out, I'm either going to take the batteries out of Ridley's detector when he's not looking, or maybe throw a handfull of B.B.'s out in front of him to keep him digging all day.
Shhhhh, don't tell him. ;D

I admire the workings of a diabolical mind, heh, heh, heh. Don't forget to video the occasion.

Look's like an ole' Enfield round MM......could be wrong....The farm seem's to be neverending.....Great dig's,hope Ridley is watchin' your every move ;)

Yep that looks like an excellent assortment of goodies. Love the bullet, those are my favorites.

Oh no, did you accidently dig up what was left of Fido? :D I was hunting with a friend once and they dug up a collar with an engraved doggie tag. I said "rebury it", I don't need any ghost dog peeing on my rims because his eternal resting place was distrubed." :-\

nice finds mate, how did you clean them so good?

It's funny you should say that.
I'd start to dig a plug and look over. MM would be there digging one too. Then I'd be filling the plug, look over and he'd be gone. Then I'd find another target and start to dig and look over and he'd be in another spot across the yard. Then he'd be gone again.

He moves around fast. ;)
