Today, in preparation of an upcoming visit to an old New England Grist Mill, I decided to take out my Whites ID and head over to the area off to the side of my driveway. I live in a home that was built in 1801 and has some awesome history to it and the property in which it sits. Known in town as the Betsey Ayer House, the actual settler of the property ( long before 1801) was a colonial foot soldier by the name of Ruben Harriman. What I believe to have found today may be a button from a british uniform that old Ruben may have brought back with him to the old farm. I was pleased to have been able to find it as it is attached to this property, historically and as a personal effect of the man who purchased this property from Thomas Hale. Can anyone help ID the button?

Thank you. I have found colonial buttons in the past, but none with the Crown of England on it. Thanks for looking!

Can't help you on the ID but will be checking in to see later if someone else can. Very pretty button in any event.

Nice find! I'm looking forward to seeing if anyone has input on it as I found this one in SC that also has the crown symbol, and marked GILT. Congrats on your find!

247017_10151567900101462_43863419_n.jpg Fantastic. Its identical. Blank front? Thanks for showing that. I found an article in W&E Treasures in the November 2000 issue. Page 16. Mark Swann found one as well. His also had the word LONDON on his reverse. Here is my button on the article that I am referring to.

I also found this one a week or so ago that also has the crown on the back but no guilt mark. it's a little smaller in diameter.

These are post-colonial but still a good button.
