My first button !

I found this at a site that is supposed to be a "confederate gun nest" up on a hill in the middle of the woods. can anyone help me identify it?

US Army Great Seal General Service button. Pre WW1 to WW2 generally. But the fact that yours says American Button Company (company is spelled out rather than just "CO" I assume?) then we are more looking at 1902-1920 time frame. Nice button!

Yep, great seal button- came into use by US military in 1902

Well not quite the Civil War, (War of Northern Aggression),, but definitely in the First World War Time Frame.
