I was happy as could be to find my first Civil war bullet. Not sure of the exact one but looks to be a script Infantry button. Also I believe this is a piece of 8. If so that would also be a first. I have been use to finding War of 1812 and Revolutionary war items and I believe all the items are actually civil war. Also got lucky with a bunch of other buttons and two Hibernia's, one is the oldest I have found. Is this a Gardner Bullet, and any possibility of finding the age of the piece of 8?

looks like a cob maybe a cft replica , see a Woods Hibernia :icon_scratch: are you saying you made all those finds Today ??? if that's the case , yep I like that hunt !

Very fine script I any back mark? Where there is one there are more. Nice find

Yeah, looks like a Spanish cob.

Great finds. That is a Confederate Gardiner bullet and beautiful script I. The Spanish piece is a cob, not piece of 8. Yours is BETTER than a piece of 8.

Marvelous digs! I'd be thrilled to dig even one of them! :headbang: :notworthy: :icon_thumleft: HAVE FUN! Andi

How long have you been detecting? I have been hunting for 40 years and have yet to find a confederate button! Congratulations and "Good Providence" on your next hunt.

Good Lord those are some great finds. BEAUTIUFL script "I." Likewise a KILLER Hibernia. And the cob is most certainly genuine. Mackaydon is excellent at cobs.

You have a very old Spanish 1 reale dated 1679 from Potosi Bolivia. Great finds!

Wow, nice stuff, congrats!

I'm no good with these (other than spotting fakes) but saw the 79, so knew it had to be that date, & the size was not right for an 8 or a cut piece, I may have guessed it was a 2 reale but was going to ask for the weight.

Anyways its a really great find & one I really want & need, I would be over the moon with that great looking cob!!!

that's a real cob, no pun intended.
where's Makaydon when you need him.

That's a great cw button to start with! congratulations on a great find!

We find a lot of these over here on the east coast but I never tire of digging them. The OP mentioned the poss the 1723 was his oldest coin. Well, if so, he blew that record out of the water. lol

Dont trust me? lol. I can see the 1 for 1 reale. Not much else to offer on the ID. Its an easy one anyhow. I'll throw in the V assayer (also legible in the 2nd photo) which is Pedro de Villar (his 1st year).

A good reference for assayers:

Spanish Coin Assayer - Mel Fisher's Treasures

Don't worry I did. I had a feeling it might be his oldest coin, & pretty hard to get much older, so that record may stand for awhile.
