My first coin spill!

This counts, right? Haha. I was on my way to the area we've been detecting and noticed a few pennies on the ground. Picked them up and decided to run my detector over the area and it went bonkers. So I started digging and every scrap or shovelful was just loaded with pennies. Spent 30 minutes getting these out, and there are still more, quite a large area! Gonna go back tomorrow.

Unfortunately, they're all modern, oldest one being 1960. It looks like there was a fire here, tons of them are totally melted. 92 pennies total, I'm sure a good amount more to come tomorrow. Was hoping I would find a wheat or something, I found a ton the last time I went through our change bucket.

That's a spill alright. Might find a couple wheaties when yo go back and clean it up. Pretty cool even though all modern. My biggest spill was 46 assorted modern coins at my favorite local park one day. Congrats!

That is a lot of pennies. And I think I would have to dig em all too! LOL

That's funny!! I thought I hit the mother lode one day when I dug 99 memorials out of one hole. You should easily top 100 after a return trip. Lol

Great find and fun to dig. I did the same thing at a local park and assumed someone fragged a roll of pennies. Sub 8-)

HA! that's great! quite a spill.

In case you didn't know, the copper pennies have good value. Any from 1981 and older are worth 3 cent in copper. Good idea to start saving them because when the penny isn't minted anymore the copper ones will become very collectible. The funny thing is it takes 2 cents worth of material to make the zinc pennies (1982-present), and their not even worth a penny in my opinion!

Nice! Congrats on your coin spill!
I don't know what it is about pennies, but people are willing to lose them by the handfuls!

YOU FOUND IT!! The place where pennies go to die! Nice save!

Nice spill. Now just bump that baby back 110 years !!

Super! Be proud!! :icon_thumright:
My second biggest coin spill was 32 and my largest was a 63 coin spill
