I went out searching on Sunday, found alot of pull tabs and some nails and a couple of old tent spikes, at least that's what I think they were. Then I found a coin. But it is so green I can't tell what it is. It is about the size of a penny. I tried the vinegar and salt thing, tried the potato thing. Nothing it's still green. I tried to post a picture but could not do that either. Just striking out here lol. Maybe I should let it soak in Dawn dish soap or ketchup. But I did have fun on my first time out..

Green is good!! Congrats!!

Try a dip in luke warm peroxide for a few minutes. Careful on the very acidic stuff like lemon juice. I've killed a few that way.

If it’s that crusty and you can’t tell what it is heat up some hydrogen peroxide and a few drops of lemon juice in the microwave then drop the coin in AFTER you take the liquid out of microwave of course. Let the bubbles do their magic and check every 15 minutes or so. You can take coin out and reheat mixture as needed or change it out when it gets too nasty.

Welcome. Due to the amount of green on it, the coin is either an Indian Head Cent or a Wheat Cent, i.e., after 1909.

Now I really can't wait to find out what it is, but I don't want to ruin it in the process

scrape it with a toothpick...i suspect it is an indian or older Wheat

Ok, got the toothpick. Thanks

Now that is very exciting...Congrats on a greenie.....

Welcome to TreasureNet! Keep posting your finds and Good luck with your future hunts. :4leafclover:

Looking forward to finding out the mystery coin, congratulations! :occasion14:

I tried to clean up the image for you, at first I thought that it was an early Lincoln cent, but the bust looks to be facing the wrong way for that. Maybe a foreign coin of some sort? It could be very old based on the corrosion it has and the fact that it looks pretty crude. Cool find!

Nothing like a toasted green coin to get you going! Meanwhile, I think I would get back out to the site again. Have you done any history of the area you found it?

Nice find! Congrats! :icon_thumleft: Have you found out what it is yet?

Looks like a crusty Indian.
Nice for a first coin.

Congrats there will be many more coins and cool stuff in your future

Welcome hope 2019 is a great year for you in this hobby Tommy

Welcome to tnet from Niagara Falls and congrats on your finds. Well done.

If you're able to see at least a bust on the front of the coin -

post a clear photo of it, there's a very good chance someone will be able to ID it despite the lack of other details.
