I went out searching on Sunday, found alot of pull tabs and some nails and a couple of old tent spikes, at least that's what I think they were. Then I found a coin. But it is so green I can't tell what it is. It is about the size of a penny. I tried the vinegar and salt thing, tried the potato thing. Nothing it's still green. I tried to post a picture but could not do that either. Just striking out here lol. Maybe I should let it soak in Dawn dish soap or ketchup. But I did have fun on my first time out..

The verdict is in. My first coin is a 1909 Indian Head penny. I could see the head and date through a magnifying glass. It still has alot of green on it even though I let it soak all morning in olive oil. As for the area where I found it. It was by the base of a pear tree, on the farm that my cousin lives on, as for the history of the farm, it was a land grant (depreciation land) from the Revolutionary War, and has been maintained in the family. I will diffentaly be going back there. Thanks for all the help, it was greatly appreciated.

I swear I see the tips of feathers from an Indian Head Penny

If it's an 08 or 09 be sure to look for the "s" mint mark! (not that that particular coin is going to be worth anything.....)

I found a 1908 s IHP in 2017.

Congrats on your first. Don't try to get it to clean because you will stand a good chance of making it worse. If I can read the dates that's good enough for me. I love the patina of them. Welcome from upstate NY,

I think you have an Indian Head cent - I believe I'm seeing the tips of the feathers .. Nice find .

Ya, I think I am just going to let it be for now. Thanks again, still really excited about it though lol

I can barely make out the IHP bust. Im 90% sure you just found your first Indian Head Penny. Congrats and welcome to the club!

Welcome to TreasureNet. The IHP is a great first find. I look forward to many more posts in the future. Your farm permission looks like it has a lot of potential. I see silver in your future.

Keep swingin.

Welcome from Southern Louisiana and congratulations of your first coin and mystery item. That’s another great high about this hobby.

Congrats on the IHC. I think it's only the beginning on that property. Good luck and be sure to post your future finds!
