Metal Detecting
I haven't been detecting for months because of the heat and rock hard ground. Today I thought I'd give it a shot since the temperature dropped down into the sixties. My wife warned me not to over do it and mess my knee up again. She said that I should ease my way back into getting up and down so much.

After arriving at the site, a mid fifties home, I decided to work the edge of the sidewalk first. Right off I got a 97 on my detector screen and was pleasantly surprised to see a 1897 Morgan silver dollar pop out of the ground. Happy, Happy, Happy!

Even though the home wasn't that old, the site it's located on used to be an old plantation field. I've found Indian Head pennies in the area before, so I decided to dig it all after finding that old silver dollar. I'm glad that I did, my next dig about 5 feet away was an Buffalo nickel.

I went on to find 3 silver quarters, 5 wheat pennies and some clad coins. Not wanting to over do myself, I called it a day after about an hour and a half of detecting. The weather forecast says that we should get some cooler temperatures next week. I hope that we get some rain as well, we need some.

Congratulations on such a rare coin to dig! It must have sure been a thrill to see that one pop out of the ground!!

Thanks Everyone! You just never know what might pop out of the ground regardless of the site you might be detecting. One day at a forties apartment site I found a Rosie, a Mercury dime, a Barber dime, and a Seated dime. They were all within 50 feet of one another. At the same apartment complex, on another hunt, I found a Reale a couple hundred yards away from those coins. I just love dirt fishing!

Nice hot spot you got, right on, good for you

Good luck on getting rain. You don’t need any for the silver! :icon_thumright: love the older coins down there.
