Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I just bought my first metal detector (Si Robertson TC2X and Garrett Pro-pointer AT) and went hunting in my new property. I decided to start on our bit of waterfront and got a hit in the first 30 seconds. Once I dug in, I found out that it was bigger then I had expected. I have NO clue to what this is... any ideas? How would I remove the dirt/rust that it is encased in delicately?

It was quite heavy and the main D-shape seems to be solid steel (I can't tell what the rest is). The second picture shows that one end (right side) has a hook built into it.

Tap it with a hammer the encrusted rust should break away.

looks like the frame and back axle to a small old tricycle. Can't wait to see what it really is!

I was to impatient to find a delicate way. I decided to take the hammer advice and tap off the encasement. I can tell some of the metal or coating flaked off with each tap. I still do not know what it is.
The "hook" was actually just a rock that was embedded in the encasement which made it look like a hook. There seemed to be a pivot point on each end of the rod.

I could be totally off but I was thinking it could be the rear end of a tricycle maybe? it does come straight out and has a slight curve towards the end of the straight bar like it does moving towards the neck.

I think the rear trike piece is a good guess. Looks like the axle is still there. Cleaned up better than I thought!

It would be totally awesome instead of beeping if the TC2X would sound off "Hey Jack"!

The rear axle of the tricycle
