So I'm still trying to figure out everything with coin hunting, places to go, cameras and web-sites, so bear with. This 1854 seated half dime was found in a wooded area. This was my very first find in this new and exciting hobby! I also have a pic with my half cent that i found a week after this discovery. Thanks Fisher!

WTG on those finds :icon_thumleft: I'm new to this hobby too and hope to get finds as good as yours. HH

Your Welcome. Like I said on your Half Cent post, you're doing terrific! Your first pre-1900 cent turns out to be an 1809 Half Cent, and your 1st ever silver coin (not counting that silver Washington quarter found a few years ago with that Radio Shack machine) is an 1854 Half Dime! By the way, Half Cents are rarer to find then Large Cents. In almost five years of detecting, I've found about 35 to 40 Large Cents and Colonial Coppers, but I've found only one Half Cent (1828). It's going to be cooler on Friday, and I'll bring you to my new woods. Also, bring your camera by, and I should be able to help you out with it, since all my digital cameras have been made by Olympus. Now if you find an early American Draped Bust silver coin before I do, I'm going to be pissed! LOL!

Thats an awesome half dime! Congratulations! :)

funny, I know many on here that have tried for years to get a 'seated' coin & still have none & its your first find. Its all down hill from here.....lol :laughing7:

Welcome to the hobby from the UK :icon_sunny:

Very nice finds for just starting out! Looks like you have good places to search for treasures. :icon_thumleft:

hi "zags08" i live in maine, and some of the best places for me to go detecting is in the woods as many people have lost things there long ago. i try to get into the woods where there are houses close by as the people would dump there trash there, and the kids would play in there too. i have had really good luck in the woods, but the best way is to do a bit of research on the town or city you want to detect. keep in mind dont be afraid to go off the beaten path, you might just find that pot of gold. have fun, and welcome to the world of metal detecting. you are now part of our big family. great finds! "god bless" ben.

Zags........how do i say this....uhhh...YOU MAKE ME SICK!!!! There you go..i said it!
LOL...A half dime???? Are you serious?? Wheres all the newbie clad and iron and pull tabs and crap??
I've found a handfull of seated coins, but never a half dime!! Its on the top of my wishlist.
Just keep it up buddy and i'm gonna have a hard time liking you!!! 8)

thanks all! just luck i guess, but the area where i live has a lot of history to it dating back to the mid 17th century. I have been striking out lately though
