Ha ha, tricked ya, it was only a penny...heh just a silly new penny. I didn't search for very long and the park I was in was full of garbage but at least I can say I found some money. I have a Famous Trails Descriminator II that I bought at Big 5 a few years ago and only used it once in the past while building my cabin in Montana. Lately I've been watching Cash and Treasures and got bit by the bug again because I've been a gold panner since I was a kid and metal detecting just goes right along with the treasure hunter in me. I've also hunted fossils and other minerals so I have some experience.
I know it's not a fancy MD, but it seems like I will be able to squeek by with it for a while, it does find things and I know I paid around $80 for it on sale which isn't bad for a newbie to get into the hobby with. The same model on the internet is going for a minimum of $130
Most of my treasures have been found at flea markets and pawn shops over the last couple of years. I was one of the people who predicted the rise of gold prices back when it was still $320 an oz so I started buying up all the gold jewelry/coins I could get my hands on at a bargin and invested in silver rounds and such as well. Now that prices are so high the deals are almost gone but you can still find them. I am a mason and have been shopping around for a masonic ring for a while and found a jeweler at the mall who is being kicked out of their space along with all the other jewelers in that space so they marked everything down STEEPLY. I ended up getting a 22k gold ring that weighs 16.4 grams for less than half price. It was marked at $1875.00 and I got it for $800.00 out the door. Can't really lose on it as an investment since it's 22K. Just goes to show that sometimes you can pay for your treasures too and still feel like you "found" a treasure.
Lots of different ways to treasure hunt. I'm glad that I've found a group of like minded people who have been bitten by the bug as bad as myself.
