My first Flying Eagle Cent !!

I was able to do about 1 hour this morning and was rewarded with a first. She was pretty deep too, 7 inches or so. Looks pretty toasted but thats OK. I think I can see 1858 so that is what I will call it ;D

I am off for a few hours to do some chores at my father in laws house and then it is back to "The spot"

I was hoping I would post this before you tried to clean it. My best advice with those early small cents is DO NOT CLEAN THEM. The patina just flakes off like dead skin leaving ....well you already found out!

I found my first in November, and have found 2 more since, all are 1857. All were deep and had the VDI of a pulltab. The best cleaning method I can recommend for these types of early cents (liberty nickels) is a good thumb rubbing. it will remove most of the sand, but will leave the patina.
