I went to a friends house last night and found a 1952 D Franklin Half in his yard. This is my first Franklin and second silver half out of I have found in his yard. The other item I found a month or so ago. I was told on the what's it forum that it is an Indian wars sword plate cover from the 1870's. It was found in a public park that was loaded with trash.

sweet finds!congrats on the big silver

Thank you. I was shocked at the plate cover in a public park. I have seen other guys detecting this park, but I hit an area that was a steep hill and that was in there with the trash.

That sword plate might be Civil War! Maybe a banner if it's real! That big silver is also great.

That would be great if it was civil war! I am definitely not a history buff so I have no idea. I found similar looking ones on the internet, but the one I found is sort of thin sheet metal like. I live in south central pa and do find civil war items sometimes.

I think what you have is the face of a very "early" version of the model 1851 officers sword belt plate! They where made of stamped brass and filled with lead.It is probably rare in comparison with the 1851 officers plate.Very neat relic that seems to have allot of history behind it,looks like someone stripped the led out for some reason. they did a good job too, didn't hurt the face at all.very nice find!

Thank you for the information! I really appreciate it. Now I'm going to go back to that park and pound it!

I would dig every tone in your friend's yard, there could be something really GOOD!!!

Here are some better picks. I did a short water hunt in the creek today and found a 1907 barber dime.
