Stopped at a house on the way back from the banking business this morning....a house built in the 1950s, thinking I could nab a quick silver coin maybe.

I was hunting behind the house when I got a hit that suggested a quarter at 4 inches. I dug it and didn't know what to make of it......first thinking it was a shield nickel. I rubbed it a bit and reallized I'd dug an 1810 half cent. It's my first half cent...and my oldest coin to date.

It's not in the best of condition, but I'll take it.

Wow! That coin is almost 200 years old! I still trying to get past 87 years.

Congratulations Wyatt!!!!!

:)

To me that coin is what this hobby is all about,really nice find,gotta hit that spot some more for sure,maybe that coin has some relatives nearby :}

For me, this coin has sparked an interest in getting serious about locating some early US silver coins. There has to be something here. There were a half a dozen or so pioneer forts within 20 miles of here. Most of those....the true locations are not known. I'm going to buy a CD Rom of the early history of this county, and see if I can't locate some truly old places. There's been a lot of coal mining done over the years here, but many of these places may still be exactly where they were 200 years ago.....and untouched.

So begins my personal quest. I'd like to find a silver coin with the flowing hair design, and might just be in the right place to do it. A draped bust coin would be nice too.....but I figure you might as well set the bar high ;D

I'd kill for one of those..........know anyone you want killed? lmao

Nice! I dug a 1817 large cent at a 1890's village home, the village founded in 1823. It's all in the dirt... and who walked thru there years before the home was built! ;)

Nice half cent 6000.

You think there was another property there before that house. Maybe it was older but all sided up.

There was originally an old log house a couple hundred yards away, but this house was built in the 50s, and has a foundation of sculptured ceramic block. It's in a small neighborhood of maybe 35 homes. None of the homes that are there now....were there when this coin was lost. If you go a couple blocks....in the wooded area is where the original barn used to stand. I'll be doing some snooping around there this fall too.

Congrats on digging such a rare old coin.A little TLC cleaning that one.
I hope you're successful in making more great finds at that site and any others that your research leads you to. HH!
