So I have been wanting a metal detector since I was a kid. My fiance' and I (more I) got his nephew one for his Birthday. Well being the wonderful aunt that I am (or will be) I always have to try out the gift first...you know, to make sure it works ::). Nothing like getting a gift that does not work. So anyway, I took it camping with me last weekend. It rained all weekend and there really was nothing else to do, but sit around with your favorite beverage and treasure hunt.

Well I had a great time with my fiance's 13 year old cousin and we did OK. Nothing really exciting but it was fun. We found 23 cents some pull tabs and a bunch of screws and my most prized treasure "a Hooch bottle cap"

Over the last 2 days I got out with it a few more times and detected in my yard. I found more nails and screws and a bunch of misc. metal pieces along with a copper pipe, what looks to be part of our older pontoon boat, an old pen (that still works after I got the mud out of it), a broken outside faucet handle screw thing, and the pin that sheared off of the snow blower last year.

I can't wait until I get my own detector (my fiance' does not want me to get one yet because my Birthday is at the end of next month...hint hint wink wink. So until then I will keep reading all of your posts and live vicariously through all of you :) thanks for looking.

Welcome to the wonderful world of detecting---it has its ups and downs(pun intended) but lots of fun
and you never know what ya might find,, so keep the coil tight to the ground and good hunting

Thanks!!! I had a ton of fun digging holes and actually finding stuff (even though it is not worth anything). I am not easily discouraged. I get excited over finding a Hooch bottle cap (that sad) :D. I am sure when I get my detector I will learn more about it and actually know how to use it better. I was just pretty much screwing around and dug up everything that made a small noise.

It can be a lot of fun and rewarding, it's also good exercise. Good luck and keep at it once you get your detector.

Welcome to TNet..Think you will enjoy it here and btw...your display plates look a lot better than my paper plates..Keep it up and you will find the good stuff..

Yea it is quite an addiction already. I Need to get a detector that is totally waterproof. I live on a lake and I am sure there is a ton of stuff at the botton of it, including a few pairs of my sunglasses :D. I showed the girl that sits across from me at work all of my wonderful treasures and she told me that I need a new hobby ;D. I think i will stick to this one. I think Treasure Net is more additive. I spend all day on this site while I am at work.

Interesting digs, Misti!

Some of us only find clad coins and pull tabs. :(

Then again, you never know what neato thing you may find!

Thanks!!! That was taken on Father's Day 2007. It was one of those throw on comfy clothes, no makeup, it's too hot to really care what I look like days. :) and it turned out to be one of my favorite pics.

Congratulations on the new hobby.
You're gonna love it, and it'll only get better from here.

Congrats on your hunt! also welcome to TNET. Copper is worth alot right now, you should sell that piece.

At least you started out right. The people on tnet who do the most good will tell you to "Dig everything"! People who don't probably miss a lot of good finds. Monty

Well havent you done pretty good for just getting started!! Alot of people kinda give up when gold or silver doesnt come out of there first few holes. Keep it up and the good stuff will show itself!! 8)

Oh trust me I know how much copper is worth. My fiance' is a plumber and he keeps every little scrap piece he has in a 5 gallon bucket and when it is full he takes it in. The one I found will make a nice addition to his bucket. :)

Also, thank you all so much for the wonderful welcome. I hope to become a well liked part of the Treasure Net family :)

Mistiskys: Welcome to TNet and you're off to a great start.

Very nice!!!

Welcome aboard!!!

I think you did great for the first time out. Keep at it and you'll have some great things in your collection soon. Just don't get discouraged and remember, not everyone finds a jar full of old dimes and pennies or a gold coin their first time out. Good things will come though.
