So I have been wanting a metal detector since I was a kid. My fiance' and I (more I) got his nephew one for his Birthday. Well being the wonderful aunt that I am (or will be) I always have to try out the gift first...you know, to make sure it works ::). Nothing like getting a gift that does not work. So anyway, I took it camping with me last weekend. It rained all weekend and there really was nothing else to do, but sit around with your favorite beverage and treasure hunt.

Well I had a great time with my fiance's 13 year old cousin and we did OK. Nothing really exciting but it was fun. We found 23 cents some pull tabs and a bunch of screws and my most prized treasure "a Hooch bottle cap"

Over the last 2 days I got out with it a few more times and detected in my yard. I found more nails and screws and a bunch of misc. metal pieces along with a copper pipe, what looks to be part of our older pontoon boat, an old pen (that still works after I got the mud out of it), a broken outside faucet handle screw thing, and the pin that sheared off of the snow blower last year.

I can't wait until I get my own detector (my fiance' does not want me to get one yet because my Birthday is at the end of next month...hint hint wink wink. So until then I will keep reading all of your posts and live vicariously through all of you :) thanks for looking.

It was funny when I pulled that cap out of the ground, everyone I was camping with was in awww over it. They were like "OMG I haven't seen one of them in years" I am definitely putting that in my scrap book. The 13 13 year old I was hunting with had no clue what it was. She kept asking what Hooch was...lol :D

You'll love group hunts also. Where you get a half dozen people and detect together. Tons of fun and excitement.

I am all for that. My fiance is not to into it so, unless I can take his nephew to hunt (assuming he is going to get into it with the MDer we got him for his B-day that we have not given him yet) I will be doing it alone. I did find our sewer clean out, he was really happy about that.
