Hi all,

I've been wanting to get a metal detector for a while and I'm planning to go to a local shop this week.

I've been reading a lot of posts and reviews and info and am more confused than ever.

Any suggestions on best value detector - with the extras for $500 or less.

I don't want anything too heavy or complicated and is good at discriminating, since I've never done before.
Secondarily, if possible, I would also want to do some beach/water hunting - but freshwater and not real deep.

Thanks so much for the help! I'm excited to get going.

John

Probably research the Garrett AT Pro. Does land and is good to 10ft under water.
Other than the water look into the Tesoro Vaquero. No screen so you learn with your ears which imo would be ideal for a new detectorist, and is as good as any detector going for twice the money.

Great advice - x2

Its kinda like asking whats a good car to get, Everyone has thier own (Strong) Opinions...I started with an ACE 250, Extremly Easy, and cheap, and I found ALOT of good things with it. Just my opinion

Welcome to TNet JohnnyD! You will lots of
help and encouragement here.

I agree on the Vaquero. Pure performance at a great price. You could probably score a deal with a vendor for a vaq and a propointer for the money you are looking to spend.

Thanks! There are two dealers in my area - Minneapolis, MN - so I am doing as much research as I can before stopping in,
but there are sooo many choices and some of the "best listings" I've found, I'm not sure what to believe.
