Detecting today I found my very FIRST WAR NICKEL!!!!! WOOT 1943 and in perfect shape with a Philadelphia Mint Mark! I was digging in my own lawn that I have cherry picked for years and dug a very very shady signal on the XP Deus and out came this gem! Goes to show that no place is ever hunted out. I also found some old hinges, 1966 dime, and an old Iron Wedge since I began digging Iron signals out of boredom and to see if they were masking anything. I know this is nothing spectacular but it is my first War Nickel as my closest was 1940 and not Silver. Enjoy and Happy Hunting!

That's one of those finds that doesn't seem like it should be as rare as it actually is. I've found many old coins but still no war nickels in my collection. Congrats!

Grats on your first! I find myself going over older ground that has already been detected a bunch...I managed 15 war nickles last year.
Pay attention to those type of signals! Everyone else doesn't. Yes, you'll dig some trash, but don't you dig some trash already?

Congrats on your first war nickel, I mean OD nickel. Lol

Congrats - she's part Silver!

Congrats! Firsts are awesome!

Congratualtions on the war nickel!

Nice find. I had found 1 in 20 years, then this year I found a site where I have dug 5 of them so far!

Nice find. Love those war nick's. 35% silver counts as silver in my book.
So far I've found maybe 4 or 5.

And you're right, no site is ever hunted out. I have some pounded sites and I imagine all of the deep, out of range targets that may never appear. Then again, sometimes they do if you wait a while.

I didn't even know what a war nickle was until I bought a bag of 43.00 worth for a nickle a pop because someone didn't want to roll them. I knew they were worth more but I figured maybe a couple cents more tops. A week later I was floored to find out the value. It was a Craigslist deal were you used Craigslist email server and they took the add down later. No way to contact and I paid more on some items so I at the time I figured it made us even. I didn't know that much more or I would have said something. Great find!

Congrats on digging a first. :occasion14: I bet you smiled when you saw the 1943 and the "P". I love that feeling.
