My German Shepherd has been on a runner a couple of hours a day for 4 years and has dug up quite a few things but this is a find I had to share

Is it hollow or solid. Have a picture of the end? Thx
Its solid, someone said it looked like a piece of coral and I have a big coral here and compared even though mine has been in my home and not buried and definitely not as old but I think it makes sense, right now my yard looks like that movie "Holes" lol my fiance who loves to dig up old bottles and marbles was out there seeing what else he could find, the ocean was where I live probably around 1000 years ago 20211231_095113.jpg 20211231_095056.jpg 20211231_095025.jpg

Villagenut has it right, it’s a worn piece of mollusc shell, probably the columella of a large gastropod. The holes/dark spots are the remains of a sponge (probably Cliona) which bores into shells.

Yeah I believe it's part of a coral but it has to be old there hasn't been a ocean here for over 1000 years at my house that is I'm about 10mls from the beach
I was wrong about how long ago the ocean was here the warm sea covered my area over 10.000 years ago and coral, jellyfish and Pteridinium was plentiful I read
