My Latest Carving

[The Grim Reaper]

I went and got some more Pipestone one day and last week and one of the pieces was shaped a little like that state of Ohio so I decided to see if I could carve out the state and put an arrowhead in the center so it looked like the Archaeological Society Of Ohio symbol. It turned out pretty good except for the upper right hand corner, or the northeastern part of the state, broke off on me and I had to shorten it a little bit but it's not that noticeable.

Very cool! I like that pipestone you use! It has character!

I have piece of grey pipestone, or so I was told. Anyway, I am making a pipe out of it, in the shape of a chief with headdress. I will take a pic of it showing my progress before I go any farther, to show how it is taking shape. I'll try to post it here tomorrow.

Thanks for showing us your latest creation. What are you going to use it for? Paperweight? How big is it?

I always wondered about the soapstone. Never have seen it that I knew of. You are obviously one of those talented and patient individuals. Good carving.
That is some good looking stone. Do you work it by hand or with a dremel?

Ahhh you might have maybe messed up one or two counties and lost a couple thousand people but I think it looks GREAT !!!! You going back for more of this material? I bet you could sell it in raw form to carvers.. Looks very nice.
