My mxt got cought doing the naughty thing.

why does my mxt find a staple when air testing at about 5" just hammers it with my 8by14 dd deep scan, but then cancel it out swing after swing. I have bring the staple closer to the loop to get a beep till it touches the coil still beeping.thanks in advance

It is tuning it out, thinking it is the ground and trying to ground balance.
For air testing the MXT, set the ground switch to "LOCK" before turning it on. It defaults to a set ground balance and will not wander.
