I'm very pleased!

Hunted for about 8 hours today. I hunted the exact spots I just covered very carefully with a Tejon, Nautilus IIb (6-15 inch coils), Silver uMax with 12x10 coil.

Some of these were dug within a foot of old plugs.

Soon I'll put a video on YouTube.

Most of the coins are newer but two are wheats (1936 & 1953 D).

I hunted in IRON MASK with sensitivity set at about 3:00 and dug ZERO nails (one while digging a brass object).

This machine is very deep and ignores iron just like they claim.

At the end of my hunt almost every dig was a keeper target.

I give an A+

Badger, now you know what the deal is with the Minelabs. Welcome to the group!

I can't get over the difference from my old Excalibur. That detector couldn't find a 50 gal. drum.

That's why I was so turned off to Minelabs.

But, I have to admit this Sovereign is superior to all my other great machines.

The others are still very good and some are much faster. But, the bottom line is Minelabs do find more.

Congratulations on your new machine! Looks like you'll be digging some deep holes. I love the buttons. What were the coins, any oldies? It just may be the person behind the machine though? Good luck with her!

I'm surprised the Nautalus missed it.

I have been hearing good things on them for Deep relic hunting.

Congrats on the Luck, I love to hear great things about the Minelabs, thats what sold me on the X-70.

How heavy is the Sovereign? Bill

Bill the weight isn't bad at all. The way the shaft is designed with Velcro cuff and all it's actually very comfortable for me. At the end of 8 hours my arm wasn't even tired.

One thing I really like is the shaft is long enough for a broad sweep. Most detector companies make their rods too short for me.

The Sovereign GT is a machine you can't wait to use again.

Three things Jeff:

1) Maybe I just missed the targets (I doubt it but it's possible)?

2) Maybe I didn't really understand how to use the IIb?

3) Maybe Minelab makes a superior detector for this type of hunting?

Probably lots of options here.

No real old coins this day C Girl. The oldest was a 1936 wheat. I wasn't really hunting for quality finds. I just wanted to see what could be found at a couple sites I have beaten to death.

But I have been digging a good number of old Indian cents lately. I just never bother to post my finds anymore on Today's Finds. I can tell by the comments on here that some think all I'm finding is iron. I dig plenty of coins but I've been doing this so long that they really don't thrill me that much anymore. I get a bigger rush out of digging more personal finds.

HH,

Badger

Thanks Badger, Bill packing leaving Scotland for the USA this morning for two weeks. God Bless!!!!!!! Bill

I thought of #1 because I'm guessing the Nautalus dosn't have
a DD Coil.

I wondered on #2 because you never really said.

I can't argue with #3

Yes probably a Combination. But the fact you can Pull
the Sovereign out the Box & practically start finding
deep targets shows something positive.

I think it's #3 Jeff. The Minelab is just better in high trash locations. That Iron Mask feature seems to be awesome.

I think the Nautilus detectors are the most powerful representatives of what was 1980's hobby metal detector technology. In fact, I now think most detectors made today are 1980's technology with added features.

Minelab detectors are at least 21st century technology.

This has been very hard for me to accept being an "old timer" at the hobby.

However, I still will use the Tesoro machines. I still think very highly of the Tejon, DeLeon, and Silver models new and old. They're much faster than the Minelabs and are much better for those sites that must be hunted rather quickly. My Silver uMax with 12x10 coil will find 50-80% of what is at a site. For the rest it takes my Sovereign GT.

But none of this is really about depth. Many models of Tesoro, Nautilus, Whites, Fisher, Garrett, etc., are deep seekers today. I've dug indian cents at 10 inches with my Tesoro. It's the technology to find the good stuff mixed in with trash that's important today because most sites have been heavily hunted.

Anyway, that's the way I see it right now.

All i can say is that the ...SOVEREIGN... IS THE BETTER DETECTOR...I like them better than the EXPLORERS..........................

I've heard this before from others.

Would you comment on why you like the Sovereign GT better than the Explorers?

Thanks,

Badger

I have found Deep silver Dimes where the Soveregn
Didn't, But I didn't test with the Sovereign
before Digging Because "Who Knew ?" ahead of digging
it was a dime for sure.

The Explorer is way too Sensitive on Speks of Metal
and has Too many Settings to Tempt me to Play with
for my taste.

The same with me i am in love with a Minelab Sovereign ...but not in love with the Excalibur. I don't water hunt any more and sold the Excalibur not sorry................. === Jim === P.S. I think the Soveriegn is better than the top of the line of any detector put out by any detector company.

Just talked to a Minelab Rep.

I remeber you questioned the setting for Sensitivity,
so I asked about Auto Vs Manual.

According to him the Sovereign has the Only "TRUE" Auto
Sensitivity.
He said while in auto if you Expierence a Null
& then a sort of POP in sound that is the Detector
resetting the Sensitivity because of a Soil Change.

He also said a Mono Coil is the Deepest Coil Because
of the Funnel Shape, But, You have to Overlap the coil
8 times compared to one swing of the DD to cover the same amount
of Ground.

Good stuff, thanks Jeff.

It's nealy winter now and really cold up here. And too I'm super busy again so no time for hunting. I sold my Sovereign GT and plan on getting either the SE or PD in the spring. I'm not so sure about that PD so I'll most likely wait a bit and read the feedback.

If I don't like the SE I can always drop back to a GT again. That GT is a winner all the way. In fact, some claim it's a much better machine than the Ex.II or SE. We'll see.
