Very nice rescue and rare artifact . Is it incised on both sides ?

Dennis....yes it has similar etching on the other side. Unfortunately I don't have a picture handy showing the other side. I'll get a picture of the other side and add it to the thread

Tdog, I think it is a slate like material but don't know a technical name for it. The reddish color on it appears to be some kind of staining. It was a surface find in a sand dune type area. It almost looks like a red ocher-ish stain to me but wasn't in close proximity to other artifacts.

That is really nice. It does look like red ocre stain. Do you still keep that area picked up?

Dang I shoulda know, I’m slow learner...

Thanks looks great sideways .

Thanks. I remember from one of the now defunct archaeology sites where a west coast member (California I believe) used to find a few relics he said were made of fused shale (dark gray or black) and I was wondering whether your pendant was made of this. I can not for the life of me remember his user name but I think he was friends with a couple of women there whose user names were Chardonnay and Too Tall!

Tdog, I think that might have been Great Basin Man? This Pendent I believe is a different material from Fused Shale.

That was the posse they were friends of Great Basin Man and hunted together before they got spooked ? The material was shale ridge glass from the south side of tulare lake basin sharks teeth also .

That is absolutely correct Dennis. I remember them getting spooked and bailing out from the web site!

Sure looks like slate from the west side of the Sierras ? I don't recall black slate out in the basin .

I have several similar broken black slate like
Pieces from all over the basin. This one came from an area closer to Vegas

Don’t know much about those but I can spot a first class artifact, that’s it.
