Leaked today... DSCN0475.webpDSCN0476.webp

It's under warranty, right? Maybe the Westerwald got it! They should not leak. They gave a quick turnaround on repairs.

It is ...lol

Then no worries!

Looks like it's had a great run!!

That Sucks! I keep hearing more and more of these leaking. Minelab will send you a new one. They have been great with CS with my profinds and arm cuff.

I emailed Minelab 3 times and never got a response... Good luck...

Has it been underwater a lot? Anyway, 6:11 am and I'm bored...going digging!

Smokey, they're all under warranty at this point as the warranty is 3 years while the model has only been out about 1.5 years. [Battery is one year].

This typically happens on the first dunking from what I've seen due to some type of manufacturing flaw that fails to fully seal the control head plastic heat seal seam. Though rare, it is not unheard of and it is even less likely to happen as time goes on (i.e., it should become evident after the first few submergences in water). The battery o-ring seals could fail down the road if they are disturbed and not reinstalled properly, but ths head unit seam seal issue is a go - no-go thing that is either good or bad from the factory and should not degrade with time. I suggest folks who plan to ultimately use their machine submerged, do so now rather than later while it is still under warranty so you can find out if your machine is subject to this leakage issue and can get replaced while it is still under warranty. Disappointing.

Neither your profile nor posts indicate you even own a Minelab product or have previously posted about this issue.. Can you go into more detail on what you were trying to contact them about?

Were you just emailing the general information/marketing address? Did you try calling?

They typically pick up the phone right away or return calls in a reasonable fashion if you call in for warranty service so your post is inconsistent with the recent experience of folks seeking warranty service or input from Minelab at their relatively newly established repair center.

If you actually have a legit gripe on warranty service responsivenes, I can pass it on to some folks as I have dealt with them before. If not, thanks for stopping by with that info, though I am not sure it is relevant.

Agree. This is not a good thing. It is rare from a percentage standpoint, but not unheard of. Based on the number of Equinoxes out there we are likely going to hear about it when it does happen. Despite the hassle to the user, ML is standing behind their warranty. Hope they improve their manufacturing process to drive the occurrence of this issue to zero.

Since I will be on myrtle beach in two weeks, forgive me for hoping your new one comes after that,

Minelab’s email server rejects some emails as spam. Use a different one like a gmail or something. It rejects my cox.com address. Get Jamie on the phone if you want to check your address in realtime.

This is a problem with lots of smaller businesses. After trouble with spam, they invest in new spam filters and sometimes customer inquiries go in the spam bin.

About the flooded Nox’s. Unless ML has told someone that it is 1. A problem only with so called “first batch” units or 2. Caused by a process error involving heat sealing of the cases - any assertion that these things are true is mere speculation.

Picked up the phone and called them problem solved going to post office now. BTW it was the 1st dunking...

Sorry to hear that for sure Calabash! I'd be mortified to know that my Nox 800 had/was going to leak like that! That has me thinking (with regards to your "1st dunking") Maybe I should give mine the same test...certainly well before the warranty runs out! Let us know how everything works out. (I'm sure ML's going to care of you)

Agree the cause may be speculation, but the what is true is that if they are going to leak due to whatever manufacturer defect is the cause, you will know after the first or second dunking based on what people have posted when they have experienced Equinox water damage. Otherwise, if your Equinox survives that initial submergence, then it is not something you should be too worried about happening.

Vf - your logic is sound - if the problem is that the device was never sealed properly in the first place. If the problem - at least sometimes - is that the device developed a leak due to thermal cycling or mechanical shock, the leak could occur anytime when submerged.

I got interested in how these kind of devices can be tested and found this on the website of a leading company in the field of this kind of testing.

This shows the two-step test. A container with the device in it is pressurized to a given level. If that pressure decreases, i means the air has leaked into the device (the interior of the device is at ambient pressure to begin with - a pressure lower that the level the chamber is pressurized to.

Like I indicated under warranty so no real issue call them return and you will be set up. And from what I understand they gave a fast turn around.
