Okay, now that all the dust has settled from Iz you iz or iz you ain't in color..

My original thunk response to the first pics were the long-dormant memory of grade school, when someone would have some mercury carried to the classroom in a wadded-up piece of lined paper. When we weren't just oohing and ahhing and goofing around with it, I know we silvered-up at least one penny.

Fooling with that stuff probably explains the drain bamage...

And congrats on your oldest coin! My fearless prediction is that, if you find an older one, you'll bust the 1900 barrier.

Probably as some suggest, a kid having fun. My Grandad used to paint copper coins silver & glue them to the path & watch people try & pick them up. lol

Nice finds.

I do remember reading something about a candidate running for office that wanted the country on a silver standard so he silver plated Indian Head pennies then handed them out at his campaign rallies. I'm not sure if your coin is from that because I think it was a earlier date on the penny but I could be wrong so it maybe worth looking into.

Good luck

I've seen some coins 'dipped' and they look silver like that. It's a cool find either way.

Congrats!

yes yes much better! and yes it does appear to be silver. very interesting. for the wear around the head dress feathers i would guess that someone electroplated it either silver or nickel. it doesnt look like paint to me but i could be wrong. nice find.
