A couple of weeks ago I found a large cent at an old farm house site I recently researched. It was my first large cent and my first pre 1800's coin that I can claim with certainty even though I can't make the date out (it is in pretty bad condition). I believe the coin to be a "matron head large cent" dating from 1816-1835 based on my best judgement studying photos of a coin in good conditon and comparing it to the one I found. At any rate, it is my oldest find and made my day! If anyone knows coins (I know very little) and has an opinion of what type this large cent is ... I would appreciate your input. Thanks for looking.

I know nothing about US coins but I think I can see 189?

Nice large cent.

I agree looks to be a matron head from that period. I'd get back to that site and dig every signal

DITTO,,, Very nice find, WTG!!!
Continued Good luck, & Happy hunting~

If this is what I think it is -- many years ago I found a coin that looked similar - it was a woman's head with almost a liberty looking crown and 13 stars above her head If I remember correctly it was from 1850 something - sorry I cant be more help the coin was stolen shortly after I found it. but it was the size of a quarter. I was told from a coin collector it was worth - at the time anywhere from 5-25.00 depending on condition

Jim,
Congrats on your great find. It sure does look old!!!
Large cents or small cents, all I ever have is no sense. ;D
Great job. "Let's hear it for NC!!!!"
