Popped a beauty out of the ground this morning in moist soil at about 4 inches deep in the front lawn of a property whose owner was kind enough to give me permission to dig. VDI 78-79 with the DFX/D2 coil in correlate mode. Had been digging wheats for an hour or so when I found it....sure was a welcome surprise. This beats my oldest American silver by 12 years.

Sweet find. :icon_thumright: Congrats.

Looks good for almost 170 years old.

Nice 1841 Seated Liberty Dime . Now I don't know the difference in the mint mark
being o and large O.
Lets hope it's a large O.

Nice looking dime. Congrats on breaking your record.

Beautiful find :icon_thumright:
Don't you just love when you pop out something that old! :notworthy:

Great coin. And one of the first years of the seated libertys. :icon_thumleft:

Good post Deepdiger. :icon_thumright: I started to take a close look at the mint mark last night but had to get off the computer.

nice dig greg, maybe we can get out and hunt again sometime. JJ

Thanks for the comments everyone and thanks for the info Deepdiger60; I doubt the coin would grade VF, but it'd still be interesting to know if my find fits the profile of the rare type you describe. How can I go about comparing the reverse of my coin with the "Reverse F" you cited?

Dogcaught, I'd be glad to have company on my next hunt--I'm pretty much limited to weekends, but let me know when you'd like to go. gg

This "o" looks different than the others to me. :icon_scratch:

nice oldie :icon_thumleft: MR TUFF

I'm not an expert by any means, but comparing pictures, it appears to be a small o to me.

Congratulations. Great find.

Eagle

I seem to see a Medium O.

Great find
