While hunting a local high school field I dug this coin, not knowing at the time what it was. After getting home and looking at it with a magnifying glass I still wasn't sure but thought it may be gold because of the FIVE DOLLAR denomination. Internet research confirmed that the coin was in fact gold. It's a gold bullion coin minted in Australia at the Perth mint for distribution by the Shawnee Indian nation and was the first year of issue. The person depicted on the coin is the brother of the more famous Tecumseh". The coin contains one fifth of an ounce of pure gold. I eventually submitted it to Western & Eastern Treasures Magazine to be entered for inclusion in their annual "Best Finds Issue". When the issue arrived I was happy to see that it made it.

Congrats! Hope to some day uncover one of those! For now, I can only find one in my dreams!

That is an awesome score! I would think a rare pull indeed Gold is rare enough, this one takes the CAKE!

Congrats on a great Gold coin find!!!

Congratulations on making the cut in the magazine. My first and only gold coin came a few months ago also as a bullion coin. Mine was a panda coin from china mounted in a ring. My brother found a bullion coin mounted in a necklace bezel a couple weeks ago. His was from Canada. I am still waiting for my first US gold coin.

Thanks, My guess is that this coin was mounted in a 3 prong bezel because there are three small nicks in the rim.

I have got to get around to digging a gold coin of some type one day. Congratulations on your find!

Thanks, I never expected to dig a gold coin in a soccer field but you just never know where things will pop up. Good luck to you in your quest.
