Hello my friends...

10/10/2010 Sunday I went with a friend in the neighboring county to about 55 km from me in a location where we've found a few days before the traces of ancient battles fought in medieval times but also high cliffs around lies a pasture where we've found arrows and spears, but also ancient and medieval brooches, pieces of armor of all time...Has appeared a signal on the screen nonferrous metal currency possible gold in Garrett 2500 GTI and depth of 6 inches but I have no hope of digging thought something...I thought it happens every time to find a beer bottle cap and when I saw the side of a glittering ring ... I could not believe I found a gold ring with carnelian seal Roman intaglio engraving that was a scene in depth the battle between mythological characters Hercules and Anteu...

:wav:

It was in perfect condition as if someone placed it there in the ground a few minutes in front of me... :icon_king:
In Romania never found something like that and I still do not believe it 3 days after the discovery... :occasion15:
Before I give the ring specialists took photos that we show with you... :hello2: :hello:

:blob3: :occasion14:

I'm late,as usual, but man, that's an AWESOME find! The historical value alone, just holding it in your hand must be a thrill of a lifetime? It's a shame you had to give it up to the authorities, but it's the right thing to do and i congratulate you on that. Hopefully the Romanian authorities appreciate the find and compensate you adequately.

The size and sheer weight, plus the quality to me would suggest it belonged to a Roman "Legate" at least.
A Legate is a Legion Commander who is both a Senator and a fighter of Centurion quality. A Legate is to be addressed as "Lord" or Legate on the battlefield.

A stunning find and along with Hispan's statuette...one of the best finds i've ever seen on here.A more than worthy "banner" find.

Well the law is quite severe in my country with these things...The temptation to keep something like that is huge especially because you meet such an object once in a lifetime...But I have thought a moment when I found and I decided to teach him the statutory period of 72 hours as finding the law says...Valuable artifacts in Romania were also found, like previous years if you heard dacian bracelets solid gold but they were sold illegally abroad and no one tried to teach a valuable law by the Romanian state...That is why they do not expect anyone to teach a very valuable historical object as the law requires it...Theoretically, the Romanian state give me 30% of the value estimated by a committee of specialists to which we can add a variable percentage to 15% for historical objects of exceptional importance...The way in which the Romanian state will pay the legal obligation can be an example for those who will find something important in the future...Let's see what will be ...About the person who had this ring your explanation is very pertinent and interesting. And I thought that it could be an officer of the legion or a roman senator, but I thought it could not have both...Very interesting indeed...
Thanks a lot Dano Sverige for your posting :hello:

Thats why I said 'idea', its all subjective & dependant on which country its sold in. Over here would be half the price of the US for example.

:-\

If it had been found in the UK, the BM would undoubtably claim it :-\ then you would have to fight tooth and nail to get a fair price.

I have seen lesser rings than this one sell for £15000, trying to get anywere near that from the BM, would like be trying to find Hen's teeth ??? The Roman mask that was recently found, was valued by the BM at £300,000, it sold for £2.3 million at auction.
English Treasure Act sucks ???

SS

Where is the source evidence that the BM valued it?

Every now and then I have to look at this find again. Mindblowing.
